The National Center for the Dissemination of Disability Research (NCDDR) is hosting a free webcast for the disability and rehabilitation communities.
The presentation provides an overview of Jamaica and its sociocultural influences on disability. The information may be useful for rehabilitation service providers in the United States who may serve Jamaican immigrants and their families. Some of the topics are: history and reasons for emigration to the United States, concept of disability, concept of independence, culture rituals, typical patterns of interactions between consumers and rehabilitation service providers, role of community and gender differences in service provision, eating habits, recommendations, and ways in which service providers can become more familiar with the culture.
Both presenters are native Jamaicans and providers of rehabilitation and health services.
The webcast is free. Registration is available at http://survey.sedl.org/efm/wsb.dll/s/1g78
There may be continuing education credits for this presentation. Check with NCDDR for more information.
