The Knowledge Translation for Technology Transfer project at Buffalo has two excellent resources on intellectual property:
Intellectual Property Module: A Chronological Guide for Inventors “provides definitions, examples, and resources, a starting point of sorts, for your information gathering journey as a technology developer.” It walks you through the invention, research, and development processes from your bright idea to patenting your invention. This 20-page guide is available free of charge at http://kt4tt.buffalo.edu/publications/IPM%20inventors%20guide%20final.pdf
The Intellectual Property Training Module is slightly broader. It takes you through the different types of intellectual property (copyright, patent, trademark, and trade secret) and discusses policies and programs you can use to protect your intellectual property. This 25-page module is also available free of charge at http://kt4tt.buffalo.edu/publications/2010%20ip%20training%20module.pdf
Now go invent something!
