April’s White House Disability Call

This month’s White House Disability Call occurred on April 28th, 2011 at 2pm. Kareem Dale, Special Advisor to the President on Disabilites, led the call. The speakers for the call were from the US Senate Office of Chief Council and the Justice Department.  The speaker from the Office of Chief Council spoke about the civil rights of people with disabilities, Autism, April is Autism Awareness Month, and what needs to be done for change in relation to autism (and how it is a grass root effort to bring about this change). The speaker from the Justice Department spoke about the Department’s issuance of regulations in relation to the ADA including the increased enforcement of Titles II and III.  This speaker also shared with the callers about the recent settlement to make law schools accessible to people who are blind or have visual impairments.  Finally, Mr. Dale encouraged all listening in on the call to visit http://www.whitehouse.gov and click on the link for disabilities.  This link will provide information on what the White House is doing in regards to disabilities.
