With one week to go before the start of the 2012 London Paralympic Games, we continue to highlight past and present athletes from across the globe.
- Lucy Ogechukwu Ejike from Nigeria has competed in three Paralympic Games and winning a total of three medals. Ms. Ejike competed in the powerlifting events in the Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, and Beijing 2008 Games winning one silver and two gold medals.
- Joao Paulo Fernandes is a three-time Paralympic Games Boccia champion from Portugal. He has won 3 gold medals and 1 silver medal at the last two Paralympic Games.
- Mohammed Khamis Khalaf has won 1 gold at the Athens 2004 Paralympic Games in the >82.5kg weight powerlifting class and 1 silver medal at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games in the >90kg class after overcoming an elbow injury. Mr. Khalaf is the first athlete from the United Arab Emirates to win a Paralympic gold medal.
