Valentina Guerrero was the talk of the fashion world this summer. You may or may not have noticed, but she’s kind of a big deal. The 10-month-old beauty and face of designer Dolores Cortes’ DC Kids swimwear line made her runway debut in late July at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim 2013 in Miami. In August, she was featured in a People magazine article as the first child model with Down’s syndrome to be the face of a campaign with such a reputable designer. While Valentina isn’t the first child with Down’s syndrome to model fashion (Toys ‘R’’ Us has used child models with Downs since 1992 as have Target and Nordstrom), according to Vanity Fair, she is by far the highest profiled. Guerrero’s parents see this as just a beginning for their child and other aspiring models living with disabilities.
