Recreational Therapy Activities for All Ages is always in the top ten, particularly with our Spanish-language readers. In this update, we would like to highlight the work of the following NIDILRR-funded projects:
- Researchers at the Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Interactive Exercise Technologies and Exercise Physiology for Persons with Disabilities are working on adaptive game controllers for people with disabilities, telehealth exercise training, a virtual exercise device for promoting physical activity, and a mapping system to promote physical activity.
- Researchers at the Temple University Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Community Living and Participation of Individuals with Psychiatric Disabilities (TU Collaborative) have created evidence-based resources, videos, and graphics focused on recreation and leisure as part of community participation. They include a family leisure calendar, a walking program for consumers, toolkits, and more. If you are looking for physical activities in the community, the TU Collaborative has also developed a Bike Share Program manual that helps improve wellness and community access!
- Researchers at the Technology Increasing Knowledge: Technology Optimizing Choice (TIKTOC) Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center (RERC) studied SCI Hard, a game that enhances the self-management skills, self-reported health behaviors, and quality of life among teens and young adults with spinal cord injury and disease. Although the study is now complete, the game is still available for download.
