What is AESLEME?

The Association for the Study of Spinal Cord Injury (AESLEME – its acronym in Spanish) is a national not-for-profit organization in Spain dedicated to the prevention of accidents that cause spinal and cerebral injuries, including those that result in paralysis and cranioencephalic trauma. The vision of AESLEME is to reduce the rate of injuries through prevention and awareness campaigns and provide support and comprehensive assistance to people who experience disabilities as a result of these injuries, their families, and friends. They raise awareness about the consequences of accidents and the physical, psychological, and social problems faced by people with disabilities and aim to improve the social and employment integration of people with disabilities by training and hiring them to work at the organization. AESLEME not only campaigns for the prevention of traumatic spinal and brain injuries, they also provide courses for professionals, policy makers, and consumers. Finally, AESLEME raises awareness, publishes a quarterly newsletter, and shares publications on spinal cord and brain injuries.
