Fundación Coanil: Promoting the Inclusion of People with Intellectual Disabilities

Coanil is a foundation with a national presence in Chile that promotes the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities by providing support services that contribute to improving their quality of life. Founded in 1974, Coanil began by creating residences and schools throughout Chile, with the aim of improving the social and economic situation of people with intellectual disabilities, especially those living in extreme poverty. Today, the foundation focuses on administering the protection of the civil rights, education, and training of people with intellectual disabilities in order to help them achieve full inclusion in the community. Coanil promotes and executes programs and models of care that cover the entire life cycle of people with intellectual disabilities. The goal of Coanil is to influence social change that favors the civil rights and improves the quality of life of people with intellectual disabilities.
