The Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association (APEBI, acronym in Spanish) in Argentina was created in 1975 and is dedicated to the development of prevention, assistance, recreational, sport, and rehabilitation programs for people with spinal bifida, hydrocephalus, and other disabilities. APEBI works with other organizations and institutions to create safe spaces for discussion and exchange, enact laws, establish prevention plans, and carry out any action that assists in promoting equal opportunities for all. They provide information on spinal bifida, legislation in Argentina, and the unique certificate of disability that helps people with disabilities access benefits, such as Comprehensive Coverage of Basic Rehabilitation Benefits and comprehensive medication coverage. Their projects across Argentina and Latin America include a series of videos of people with spinal bifida and hydrocephalus from around the world who discuss different aspects of these disabilities; social media campaigns that help raise awareness about different disabilities, research, sports and recreation; and tools that help with autonomy, self-determination, and independent living.
