FUNDELA: Increasing Research and Knowledge on Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

The Spanish Foundation for the Promotion of Research on Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (FUNDELA, Spanish acronym) was established in December 2002, with the specific objective of promoting research on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in Spain. FUNDELA also disseminates information on advances in the scientific knowledge of ALS, also known as Lou Gherig’s Disease, through developing and sharing scientific bulletins, information on international congresses, sponsoring training activities, using social media and other means of communication to promote research, publications, and more. These informative activities are carried out by researchers and other professionals who collaborate with the foundation. FUNDELA directly supports research and finances projects and lines of research in Spain and by international teams. The foundation raises social awareness about ALS to increase knowledge in the general population and among health professionals. Finally, FUNDELA collaborates with the various consumer ALS associations in Spain and in Spanish-speaking countries, providing them with information on the latest scientific advances.
