Always in our top ten blog posts among our English and Spanish readers, What are physical barriers? defines physical barriers for people with disabilities, recommends organizations that provide information related to the standards issued under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Architectural Barriers Act (ABA) address access, and discusses NIDILRR-funded research.

The NIDILRR community continues its research and development activities to assist in the removal of all barriers, including physical, virtual, and programmatic barriers. The Temple University Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Community Living and Participation of People with Serious Mental Illness (TU Collaborative) is such a project. Researchers at the TU Collaborative research and develop resources and innovative interventions that help people with mental illness overcome the barriers to community participation they may face.

NARIC’s information specialists searched NARIC’s KnowledgeBase and found over 40 organizations from the US and around the world that assist people with disabilities who speak English and/or Spanish in relation to the barriers that they may face. Do you want to learn more about physical barriers? NARIC recently published an Answered Questions blog post on the latest research and news related to barriers in the community and at home.
