FEBHI: A Federation of Associations in Spain that Support and Assist People with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus

Since 1980, the Spanish Federation of Associations on Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (FEBHI, acronym in Spanish) (in Spanish) has worked towards making universal accessibility in products, services, and environments a reality for people with spina bifida and hydrocephalus (EBH, acronym in Spanish). FEBHI is a non-governmental organization in Spain that is committed to bringing together people with EBH and their families and the organizations throughout the country that support these families. FEBHI represents this community, advocates for its needs and its rights, and demands the improvement of quality of life of people with EBH, the integration of people with disabilities in general, and the prevention of EBH. Through its employment program (in Spanish), FEBHI works towards the employment of people with disabilities, and especially people with spina bifida, by offering training and work intermediation for people with disabilities and provides an employment portal for those seeking work and for companies seeking to hire people with disabilities. Through its communication and awareness program (in Spanish), FEBHI creates information, prevention, and awareness campaigns so that communities become aware about people with EBH and the issues that they face. In 2012, FEBHI launched the Strengthening Program (in Spanish), to build capacity in EBH and other disability support organizations in management and implementation of quality models. Finally, FEBHI provides consumer-friendly information about spina bifida (in Spanish) and hydrocephalus (in Spanish) that includes information about diagnosis and treatments.
