CONADI Guatemala: Joint action for the full participation of people with disabilities

The National Council for the Care of Persons with Disabilities (CONADI, acronym in Spanish) of Guatemala (in Spanish) is the coordinating, advisory, and driving entity that influences the application of general and state policies, to ensure compliance with human rights and fundamental freedoms of people with disabilities in Guatemala. CONADI Guatemala’s vision is to be the governing body that guarantees compliance with regulations on disability, with a solid presence in all of Guatemala and with international recognition. The Council works towards the respect for inherent dignity, individual autonomy, including the freedom to make one’s own decision, and the independence of Guatemalans with disabilities; non-discrimination for all; the full and effective participation and inclusion in society of Guatemalans with disabilities; the respect for difference and acceptance of people with disabilities as part of diversity and the human condition; equal opportunity for all; accessibility; equality between men and women with and without disabilities; and the respect for the evolution of the faculties of Guatemalan children with disabilities and their right to preserve their identity. CONADI Guatemala does all this by working with local organizations in Guatemala and raising awareness through various programs, conferences, and videos. The Council also shares the latest local, national, and international news on its website. Finally, CONADI Guatemala discusses national and international laws and provides information for people with disabilities, their families, and service providers.
