Alzheimer Catalunya: Improving the Lives of People with Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Dementias

Alzheimer Catalunya (in Spanish) was founded in Catalunya, Spain in 1988. The foundation works towards improving the quality of life and dignity of people with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias and supports them and their families. Alzheimer Catalunya provides various services for people with dementia and their families (in Spanish), including workshops and activities for people with dementia and their families, aging support, a caregiver network, interventions for people with cognitive decline, personalized evaluations, and support groups, among others. Staff from the foundation support and accompany people with dementia (in Spanish) throughout the day as a way to offer people with dementia a dignified life. Alzheimer Catalunya provides support and training to the families (in Spanish) of people with dementia through courses, support groups, and workshops, among other services. The Foundation also provides training for professionals (in Spanish) on Alzheimer’s disease and dementia-related topics. The training involves courses that discuss a wide range of topics, such as introduction to caregiving for people with dementia, aging and sexuality, Alzheimer’s disease and Down Syndrome, and more. The Foundation works on various projects focused on ending the mistreatment of people with dementia, community activism as a tool to combatting the mistreatment of people with dementia and supporting people with a cognitive disorder who are being mistreated. Finally, Alzheimer Catalunya provides information on topics related to dementia in Spanish and Catalan for people with dementia or cognitive disorders and their families.
