Are new technologies such as the Apple iPad a miracle device for children with autism?

Since April is Autism Awareness Month we have been on the lookout for interesting articles, information, devices, and products related to assisting individuals with autism spectrum disorders. Fox News Online featured a story “Is the iPad a ‘Miracle Device’ for Autism?”  The article highlights the experiences of parents of children with autism and provided expert commentary of the usefulness of the Apple iPad in reducing symptoms and increasing communication among children using the device.  According to the article there are at least three dozen apps designed for kids with autism including ones for music and reading. And the device itself supports spoken text and other aids for those with special needs.
