- RTC on Blindness and Low Vision Building Launches Participant Registry
The NIDRR-funded Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Blindness and Low Vision has an online registry of people interested in participating in current and future research projects. To join, visit the Registry and enter your basic demographic information. The Registry will match you with current research and determine whether you are eligible to participate. This database will help the project effectively investigate the challenges faced by individuals who are blind or visually impaired. - AIMFREE Aims to Improve Access to Fitness for People with Disabilities
AIMFREE, a web-based tool developed by the NIDRR-funded Rehab Engineering Research Center on Recreational Technologies and Exercise Physiology Benefiting Persons with Disabilities, is currently in use by researchers at Canada’s McMaster University to evaluate the accessibility of fitness and exercise facilities in the community. The tool has been used by more than 300 McMaster students learning to design accessible facilities! - Spinal Injury 101
Understanding Spinal Injury, a new educational video series geared toward individuals with new injuries as well as professionals, is part of an integrated awareness campaign to educate families who have recently experienced SCI. The video offers basic information about levels of SCI, advice on coping, and outlines possible functional expectations for the future. The series is a collaboration between the NIDRR-funded Southeastern Regional Spinal Cord Injury Model System at Shepherd Center, KPK Interactive, the American Trauma Society, the National Spinal Cord Injury Association, and the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. - ADA Quiz Book – 4th Edition
The NIDRR-funded Rocky Mountain ADA Center has released the fourth edition of its ADA Quiz Book, featuring quizzes, puzzles, and case study scenarios for all ADA titles, including the most recent amendments. The ADA Quiz Book is available for purchase. - NIDRR Grantee Contributes to New Report Focused on Rights of Parents with Disabilities
The NIDRR-funded National Center for Parents with Disabilities and Their Families announced the release of “Rocking the Cradle: Ensuring the Rights of Parents with Disabilities and Their Children.” This groundbreaking policy study from the National Council on Disabilities (NCD), developed with substantial contribution by the National Center for Parents with Disabilities and Their Families, advances understanding and promotes the fundamental rights of Americans with all kinds of disabilities to begin and maintain families. The report is available to download free of charge from NCD. - Points of Empowerment Topic Sheets
The NIDRR-funded Project Empowerment: Building Research Infrastructure Capacity offers Points of Empowerment, a series of topic sheets focused on issues of importance to minorities with disabilities. Each topic sheet presents research and resources in a concise and easy to share format. The most recent issues present an overview of stroke and its risk factors and prevention. Previous issues focused on psychiatric disability. Each is published in PDF format. - New Monograph Explores the Role of Peer Specialists
The NIDRR-funded Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Participation and Community Living of Individuals with Psychiatric Disabilities announced the publication of Helping People Connect to the Religious Congregations and Spiritual Groups of Their Choice: The Role of Peer Specialists (PDF), a new monograph exploring the roles of peer specialists in helping the people they serve to connect to the mainstream religion congregations and spiritual groups of their choice. This monograph is part of a series of documents that explores the roles that peer specialists play in promoting community inclusion of service recipients in a variety of life domains.
