FND: Helping People with Disabilities and Their Families Throughout Chile

The National Foundation for People with Disabilities (FND, acronym in Spanish) develops activities in four specific areas to help all people with disabilities and their families in all of Chile: Education and Promotion, an Employment Integration Program, Training in Legal Advocacy, and Supporting Research. FND’s education and promotion activities are aimed at educating about and promoting the rights of Chileans with disabilities and their families. FND’s Work Inclusion Program uses a multidisciplinary team approach to develop work inclusion programs with companies, incorporating Chileans with disabilities in the workplace. The program’s objective is to connect businesses that have diversity policies and people with disabilities seeking employment, including a course for businesses on integrating workers with disabilities in their workplaces. The foundation’s Legal Advocacy Training program guides and legally defends Chileans with disabilities who see their rights being violated. This program is an independent help channel, with a tradition and adherence to ethical values in the exercise of the law. For over 10 years, FND has provided advice on research linked to the area of disability, developed from academic, public, and private environments, generating theoretical and practical knowledge to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities. Since 1985, FND has spread social integration of people with disabilities throughout Chile, Peru, Colombia, Brazil, Cuba, Argentina, and the United States. Finally, the foundation provides significant support in universal design and accessibility and established an alliance with the architects from Prado Fuentealba for the development of integral accessibility projects in public spaces and buildings, educational and tourist programs, and the design and development of objects that benefit people with disabilities, older adults, and society in Chile, Latin America, and the world.
