Did you know that the NIDILRR grantee community shares their work in a variety of ways? Over the last ten years, the types and number of consumer products from the NIDILRR grantee community have changed and grown. These projects produce videos and webinars; factsheets, infographics, and tip sheets; and podcasts, among other products. Many of these products are designed to be easy to read, view, or listen to. They may share the results of a study; an innovative intervention; courses; interviews with other members of the NIDILRR grantee community; or discussions with advocates, researchers, and people with disabilities, among others. Many members of the NIDILRR grantee community also produce consumer-friendly products in Spanish. Below, you will find a few recent examples of the products available in English, Spanish, or both:
Videos and Webinar Recordings:
- Are you a person with a disability who is pregnant or is thinking about becoming pregnant? The National Center for Disability and Pregnancy Research (NCDPR) recently released a recording of a webinar on pregnancy and physical disability. In this video, two mothers with physical disabilities discussed their pregnancies and birth experiences. They touched on the challenges, positives, and the lessons learned.
- Are you interested in the impact of COVID and Long COVID on your community? COVID-19 and Long COVID have had an impact around the world, including among people with disabilities. The Center on Knowledge Translation for Employment Research (CeKTER) released a video of a recent webinar that shares the impact of Long COVID on the lived experiences of people with disabilities in terms of healthcare use and employment, reviews current and past research on Long COVID, and identifies research gaps on COVID-related issues among people with disabilities.
Factsheets, Infocomics, and Tip Sheets:
- Are you a young person with a mental health condition transitioning into adulthood and want to learn about the process? The Learning and Working During the Transitions to Adulthood Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (Transitions ACR) recently published Adulting Shorts: Let’s Talk About Workplace Accommodations. In this infocomic, employees with mental health conditions discuss needing to ask for accommodation at work. This infocomic is based on the real-world experiences of young adults with lived experience of mental health conditions when working. You may learn more about workplace accommodations in this tipsheet and other resources from Transitions ACR.
- Are you a person with a spinal cord injury (SCI) who would like to learn more about nutrition after SCI? The Model Systems Knowledge Translation Center (MSKTC) published a factsheet on nutrition and SCI. The factsheet defines nutrition, why it is important, how it affects one’s health after SCI, and how to talk to a healthcare provider about one’s diet, among other related topics. This factsheet is also available in Spanish. This is just one example of MSKTC’s large selection of information products for diverse audiences interested in SCI, traumatic brain injury, and burn injuries.
Podcasts:
- Are you a person with a disability, family member, service provider, or business seeking to learn more about your rights and responsibilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)? The Southeast ADA Regional Center’s podcast ADA Live! covers a variety of topics related to the ADA in English and Spanish. Recent topics include sheltered employment and day services, how the ADA National Network connects with Spanish-speaking disability community, global disability rights, and discussions on developmental disability councils, among other topics.
- Are you a person with neurogenic bladder or the parent of a child with neurogenic bladder? The Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Neurogenic Lower Urinary Tract Dysfunction hosts the Bladder Buzz Podcast, which includes a diverse team of physicians, researchers, and people with neurogenic bladder discussing a wide range of topics, from the basics of neurogenic bladder, to being in a relationship, and exploring social justice issues, among other topics. The Bladder Buzz Podcast includes episodes in Spanish on topics related to neurogenic bladder.
