ASDRA: Supporting People with Down Syndrome and Their Families in Argentina

The Down Syndrome Association of the Republic of Argentina (ASDRA, acronym in Spanish) (in Spanish) is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1988 by a group of parents to improve the lives of their children with Down syndrome. ASDRA works with families and volunteers towards the inclusion of people with Down syndrome in early care, education, work, independent living, and participation in communities of their choice. The Association educates and trains (in Spanish) parents, family members, professionals, businesses, institutions, and the general public about Down syndrome. ASDRA helps to defend the civil rights of people with Down syndrome (in Spanish) and their families through discussions in the community and by promoting compliance with the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which was approved by Argentina in 2008. Finally, ASDRA hosts events where people with Down syndrome and their families can meet and receive support and network with other families.
