At the beginning of National Hispanic Heritage Month 2018, we highlighted Latinos with disabilities who use their platforms to voice their stories and educate others about disabilities. Today, we would like to highlight organizations and resources that may be helpful to Latinos with disabilities:
- Benefits.gov – If you live within the US, Benefits.gov has articles, benefit information, and other resources that are accessible in English and Spanish. Their Benefits Finder questionnaire can help you discover the resources that you may be eligible to receive and is also available in Spanish.
- Speaking of benefits, Medicare.gov is the official government site and provides information about Medicare, FAQ, and other information related Medicare in English and Spanish.
- Are you thinking of starting a business? The MicroLoan Program from the Small Business Association (SBA) provides small loans to start-up, newly established or growing small businesses. Information is available in English and Spanish.
- Are you over 50? Take a look at the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the needs and interests of its members. They provide information and resources in English and Spanish.
- The Pacer Center has the mission to create opportunities and improve the quality of life of children and young adults with disabilities. The Center is based on the concept of parents helping parents and offers publications, resources, and programs to help people with disabilities and their families in English and Spanish.
- The Center for Parent Information and Resources (CPIR) provides information and resources to parents and families of children with disabilities. Topics include the ADA and IDEA, different types of disabilities, peer-to-peer support, education, and more. CPIR provides information in English and Spanish.
- The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) provides information on federal laws, types of discrimination, how to file a discrimination complaint, statistics, training, and more. The EEOC also provide guides, manuals, and information for federal agencies and employers. The information, guides, and manuals are available in English and Spanish.
